Left an hour late from CPH to EDI, since EDI was closed due to storm/ash, arrived on the Scottish coast, found that EDI was still closed, turned and went back to CPH! Full refund, but five hours wasted in the tin can. The world should be interconnected by mag tubes.

Convergent Evolution Upends Honeyeaters' Taxonomy 186

grrlscientist writes in with a beautiful piece of science, beautifully explicated. The poignant bit is that the birds in question are all extinct. "Every once in awhile, I will read a scientific paper that astonishes and delights me so much that I can hardly wait to tell you all about it. Such is the situation with a newly published paper about the Hawai'ian Honeyeaters. In short, due to the remarkable power of convergent evolution, Hawai'ian Honeyeaters have thoroughly deceived taxonomists and ornithologists as to their true origin and identity for more than 200 years."

Compromising Wired Keyboards 277

Flavien writes "A team from the Security and Cryptography Laboratory (LASEC) in Lausanne, Switzerland, found 4 different ways to fully or partially recover keystrokes from wired keyboards at a distance up to 20 meters, even through walls. They tested 11 different wired keyboard models bought between 2001 and 2008 (PS/2, USB and laptop). They are all vulnerable to at least one of the 4 attacks. While more information on these attacks will be published soon, a short description with 2 videos is available."

And you just showed why I still come to Slashdot. It's nothing but the comments these days. I don't read the article OR the summary any longer. I read the headline, see if it something I know something about, click Read more, check the first 10-15 comments on +5, get the story summed up, debunked and a laugh. Then on to another website.
