Actually you can aim them by choosing your generation process parameters correctly.

Slashdot has always been one of my favorite sites and a source of interesting information off the mainstream information sources. You could find real gems in the posts, although sometimes hidden in tons of trolling ;-)

I think it would be too early to call FTL travel and time travel impossible (the two beeing closly connected). There are interesting theories for FTL (like the Alcubierre drive http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive) and although this does require negative matter as parent noted this does not mean it is impossible. The Casimir effect for example (a well known quantum effect) produces a mass-negative region of space.

I think most people just mix two different questions with each other and thus think that they must have the same answer.

Science explains how a clock works but not why it was wound up. The why is the question religion answers. Science never claimed to answer the why, only the how.

For the people only interested in the how science is enought, for the why pleople have to turn somewhere else.

Although one can easily get confused by the way religion typically answers the question of the why. Usually it will tell a story of how things began but really answering in a metaphorical way why we are here.
