It would be a mistake to roll HBO into the mediocrity that is Netflix. HBO is recognized for its higher quality content and more sophisticated writing. I could see older HBO titles becoming slightly more accessible to feed the peons at the trough, but merging the brands would dilute HBO’s reputation.

WD Escapes Half a Billion in Patent Damages as Judge Trims Award To $1 (theregister.com) 11

Western Digital has succeeded in having the sum it owed from a patent infringement case reduced from $553 million down to just $1 in post-trial motions, when the judge found the plaintiff's claims had shifted during the course of the litigation. From a report: The storage biz was held by a California jury to have infringed on data encryption patents owned by SPEX Technologies Inc in October, relating to several of its self-encrypting hard drive products.

WD was initially told to pay $316 million in damages, but District Judge James Selna ruled the company owed a further $237 million in interest charges earlier this year, bringing the total to more than half a billion dollars. In February, WD was given a week to file a bond or stump up the entire damages payment.
Selna granted Western Digital's post-trial motion to reduce damages, writing that "SPEX's damages theory changed as certain evidence and theories became unavailable" and there was "insufficient evidence from which the Court could determine a reasonable royalty."

I agree, but I think there should be a waiting period say 7 years then you can declare bankruptcy for a student loan. Otherwise it is a no brainer to go 1 year without work and discharge all debt, and loans would cease all together. 7 years post would put you into your 30s and have a material impact on you life, but would still temper costs. Regardless of details, we do need to limit the capital that one can get for tertiary education.

This depends on how you count pollution contribution, the USA consumes more than it produces. If you count all things manufactured for consumption in the US it wont be close on a per capita basis in anyway.

That impoverished household that burns wood every day to cook has nowhere near the level of waste output of the average US home, factoring in the factories in China movement of goods etc to provide that lifestyle.

The post above suggests a ratio of pollution level per American been greater than 4:1 compared to an Indian, do you have any information to suggest that is accurate. It may be true but that sounds quite high.
