Many many moons ago, I was accessing a system that enforced changing your password every 35 days. Could not reuse passwords for 13 months. Had to have a capital, lower case, symbol, and a numeric. My passwords were May_86, Jun_86, Jul_86,... (not sure 86 was the right year, but you get the idea). Typical example of a self destructive policy.

I wanted to set a Netflix account up for my brother in law that I would pay for. Since I only use one email address, I couldn't figure out how to do it. I contacted Netflix customer service to try to work through this. They told me they had no way to do it, and to just share my account with him.

Though the break-up of AT&T was a popular move, the US lost most of Bell Labs since they were funded by AT&T when it was in a non-competitive environment. Bell Labs brought us many interesting things - Unix, C, AWK, the transistor, research leading to the big bang theory, among others. It was a privately funded organization that allowed pure research to take place, without dictating what direction it had to take (such as modern drug companies).

I find it ironic that we are banning Chinese equipment as it may be providing back door access to encrypted information, and at the same time have the idiots in government advocating for the addition of back door access to encrypted communications. Maybe they should just save time and contract with China to use their back doors.
