Say, you seem like a decent chap: help a raving paranoid neophyte out, is a "troll" intended to mean the folkloric Scandinavian giant, or the lure used in fishing? Either one seems appropriate.

They may have obtained the 500MPH figure from the relatively simple method of estimating the relative distance and time of flight as seen in the videos we all saw on the news.
