I wouldn't consider my attitude paramount to lowering expectations. It's an attitude where I detach myself from the clinical world and enjoy what is presented.
If a movie/book/play is horrid, so be it. . . but if it entertains and takes someones mind away from the daily stretch, it in my opinion is worth the $8.50. =]
