You hate this argument because it proves you are wrong. For one thing 'wealth' is defined as net worth which puts a recent graduate earning $300,000 who has a $200,000 student debt and no other assets on that bottom percentage with a net worth wiping out $200,000 of someone else's wealth so the total looks worse...

So young people want to vote but not have any of the responsibilities that go along with voting like jury duty? Unfortunately that is part of the voting deal, you need to do jury duty. Polling places are easily found and are readily available with lists posted weeks in advance. College ID is not government issued and that is why it isn't good enough.

"Yes, but that doesn't mean that they are gaining equally from that transaction. " So what? Why would they need to gain equally? Each is choosing it because they determine that to be THEIR BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE. The judgement of some elitist ass like you isn't relevant. "Indeed, chances are pretty good that the corporate entity is gaining a whole lot more from the transaction than the consumer is." That isn't your call to make and even if it were it is none of your business. "Unfortunately, for many transactions the consumer has little choice." So what, others do not owe them options. "We don't get to choose to simply not eat, for example" Nobody is making you need to eat. That is purely your body making you need to eat, so why do you think others should have to make allowances for that? "(and most working people don't really have the option of spending half their day fishing)." Actually they do, they just understand that isn't as productive as going to work... "What the article writer seems to miss in my mind is that UBI needs to go hand-in-hand with a reasonable minimum wage." No it does not and given you have provided no evidence or arguments to support you claim then by Hitchens razor I dismiss it with none myself. "UBI shouldn't be a way for government to simply provide cheaper labour for corporate entities -- that's simply corporate welfare." UBI is immoral and unacceptable. "UBI needs to be balanced with a reasonable minimum wage to prevent these sorts of abuses." Nope it needs to not exist, like minimum wage.

Canada is an example of the failure of public medical. It has crappy service, long wait times and is absolutely pathetic. I live in NZ and here I have private medical insurance that costs less than 1/23rd as much as the portion of my taxes that go to the public system. My private medical covers everything that the public system does and more (dental, non-subsidised teatments and medication, private rooms, higher standard of care etc etc etc) and is cheaper because there is nothing that can be done that can't be done worse by government. This holds true for every single country that has private insurance and public systems. As to America being expensive that is the teens of thousands of pages of regulations placed upon n the industry, like the one that restricts the number of new doctors (not based upon qualifications but just the number), that prevent interstate sales, that prevent direct bargaining etc etc etc.
