ahhh..but you cannot shatter a crystal glass simply by running your finger around it. Unless of course you can make your fingertip do laps at an incredible speed. Your finger simply being on the glass affects the resonant tone of the glass and therefore it is nearly impossible to do it in that manner. Also, contrary to common belief, for all practical purposes, even the best of operatic sopranos canNOT shatter a glass with merely their voice UNLESS it is a glass designed with this in mind. My high school choral teacher had done a project on this--turns out that demonstrations of that nature are 'rigged' in that the glass was designed with a resonating freq. in the a)audible human hearing range and b)one that could easily be sustained for a length by a skilled musician.
