Journal Journal: Been away too long...

Too long since an update. Now working for a wireless ISP who also manufactures and sells its own hardware for other WISPs, etc. Very cool place to work, although the learning curve is fairly steep. Not that much of a problem, though.
Finally going to get around to getting a new machine up and running, although I'm not really sure what I'm going to use for an OS. Leaning towards a Win2000 / Linux dual boot, but I'll have to look into it, and make sure that all of the hardware is Linux com

Journal Journal: Standing in the rain...

Spent last Sunday working as a communications point for the Vancouver Sun Run. In short, it was my job (along with another ham, VE7CYI) to make sure that all went well past our little point on the course.
Nothing went wrong, thankfully, but it was interesting to watch ~49,500 people running/jogging/walking by non-stop for about two hours. First wave of runners left at 9:00am with the very last group to leave at 10:15. It was a spectacle, one that just confirmed the fact that I'm not a dis

Journal Journal: Another long day

Finally got the Win2K machine running properly. Had to ghost it back to its 98SE incantation, run Norton, upgrade, manually remove Norton, and reinstall it again. It's also asking for the Office CD when logging in as well. Strange. Ran Windows Update on the thing for about 45 minutes (12 reboots in total), but the thing should be as bullet-proof as it can be made for now. Frustrating, really.

Journal Journal: That was quick...

Friday night I got a call from my wife's uncle asking if I would help him upgrade his machine from 98SE to Windows 2000 Professional. No problem, says I. Head out there, and the install goes flawlessly. No problems at all, so I head back home. Bad idea.
He calls me the next day, saying that about two minutes after I had left, he got the idea to check his Norton Antivirus. Turns out that it wasn't running, and his machine was doing strange things. Uh oh.
