I wholeheartedly agree with you, but at one engagement of mine any kind of process improvement was met with hostility as the in-breds were paid handsomely for the overtime to fix the same old problems that occurred night-in, night-out.

They deliberately never fixed the root cause of the overnight problems, they just fixed the wonky data, restarted the relevant services and waited until the next evening and more overtime.

I only got the green light to improve things when there was a change of management. Needless to say, I didn't get invited to any social events after that.

Not only this, the first time there's a fuck-up, you'll get the blame as you're the newcomer.
