The level of complexity to building a wall is absolutely minuscule compared to writing code. If you ask a mathematician to solve a complex mathematical problem and you pay them by the hour... are you going to expect them to correct the minor flaws in their near complete solution? I certainly dont think so. Mucking up a wall is such an obvious mistake that you can only do it if you are a complete imbecile and thus it is only right that you fix it on your own dime and time.
Your boss probably thought he was being very clever, what a jackass. Tell him he should hire a brick layer to come write your code.
