Tried it. The company went under, we got the source - to a Unix version that was 2 years older than the Windows version we were using, and it was incomplete - only about 1/2 the source files were present, and they were obviously NOT from a buildable release.
New scheme - we get the source up front. Unsurprisingly, very few closed-source vendors will work with that.
