Are there any multi-cpu versions of Linux (that actually do anything in parallel)? When I was logging into a C-90 on a daily basis a few years ago it was running UNICOS, Cray's implementation of a flavor of Unix. I spent two weeks at a kernel internals class learning about code sharing and parallel processing with a 16 CPU 64-bit architecture, and my brains were leaking from my ears before I left! And vi still ran at the same speed as it did on the Sparc 20.
