I may be mistaken, but wasn't the goal disputed because Brett Hull was in the crease when he scored? And it was decided that he had 'gained possesion of the puck' outside the crease when bounced in to his feet? Yes, Buffalo was screwed, by a rule that was change the next year to allow goals when players are in the crease but not interfering with the goalie.

Oh and NHL teams do NOT have the right to a reply. They don't even have the right to ask, just most officials will grant a request.
