I would recommend you check out Lombardi Blueprint http://www.lombardisoftware.com/bpm-blueprint-product.php (disclosure I work for Lombardi). Its designed to be easy to use by all, is browser based and collaborative. It has a high-level view like you're talking about ("Discovery Map") Which then generates a flow diagram at the touch of a button. It also generates documentation. The Map, Flow and Documentation are all linked so if you make a change to one it will change the other two. We even have a 30 day free trial offer :-) Good luck!
