Comment Non-News is nothing to socialists (Score 1) 2058

The reason so many socialists are gleefully trashing libertarians over this fire-story (with a guaranteed +5 insightful) is because they only consider events dramatic enough to make the news. A loss that is spread out evenly over many people goes straight into their blind spot. It is unjust to force anyone to pay for fire service. That injustice is nothing to socialists because it isn't a dramatic event they can point to. But multiply it out over the vast number of people the injustice is imposed on, and the loss is greater than this house that burned down. Too bad a full cost/benefit analysis would make too boring a story for anyone to watch.

The hard drive was neither SCSI or SATA.. so the flash drive was the only thing that should have been mounted sd(x). It was plugged in from the beginning. I guess if you have an IDE hard drive, Grub looks there first, does its thing on hda, and Ubuntu doesn't pass the right info to Grub to make it do otherwise..

Comment One Ubuntu Caveat (Score 3, Informative) 871

Agreed.. the Ubuntu interface and speed are great, even running off a live CD. But if you plan to install to a flash drive, do not trust it to leave your hard drive alone. When it gets to the GRUB installation, it reverts back to a hard drive install and messes with your MBR. I tried it on a Windows XP machine, and it made both XP and the flash drive unbootable.. should have yanked the hard drive first.

If the power output is constant, you'd start off like a rock out of a slingshot. Then as you reached top speed the acceleration would taper off asymtotically. Kinetic energy = 1/2 mass x velocity^2 I think.
