The New Commodore 64 339

An anonymous reader writes "After nearly 30 years, the Commodore brand has taken on new management and is re-releasing its flagship computer, this time with all the amenities of a modern-day computer packed inside. From the article: 'The new Commodore 64, which will begin shipping at the end of the month, has been souped-up for the modern age. It comes with 1.8 gigahertz dual processors, an optional Blu-ray player and built-in ethernet and HDMI ports. The new Commodore is priced between $250 to $900.'"

Another Sony Format Bites the Dust 425

Lam1969 writes "Reuters is reporting that Universal Media Disc, Sony's PSP-only movie format, is about to kick the bucket. While the discs' novelty factor resulted in strong sales shortly after the PSP's May 2005 launch, interest rapidly dropped and movie companies are no longer interested in producing titles. From the article: "Universal Studios Home Entertainment has completely stopped producing UMD movies, according to executives who asked not to be identified by name. Said one high-ranking exec: 'It's awful. Sales are near zilch. It's another Sony bomb -- like Blu-ray."'"

The key to gaming for linux in my eyes at this point is the not-so-small matter of adopting a good graphics API (like SDL), not the individual games themselves. Specifically, the sound issue of OpenAL vs ALSA vs ESD etc. really hurts quick adoption by industry I think. What would be nice is something like an Architecture Review Board, or working group amoungst the linux muckity-mucks to promote a universal standard.
