Journal Baloo Ursidae's Journal: Why is setting up gsynaptics so hard 6

This one really frustrated me: I couldn't get my synaptics touchpad configured so I could easily toggle it for the life of me after reinstalling my laptop. Finally, I got it solved today. So I can remember what, I did, I'm posting it here.

Why is setting up gsynaptics so hard

  • I've been having problems with something about SHMConfig even though I'm turning it on, I'll try doing what you did later.

  • Which distro are you using? I've never had problems with being able to enable-disable my touchpad by pressing the button above it in Ubuntu.

    • Debian. And same here... but mostly because I've never had a laptop that had a trackpad before. I don't use it much, as someone who uses the keyboard a lot, I really prefer the trackpoint stick in the middle of the keyboard. It's someplace I can use the mouse without actually leaving the keyboard. Granted, there's some things you just can't do with a trackpoint stick, like scroll up and down easily... I wonder if there's a way to tune my touchpad so it's only good for scrolling, and move the sensitive

        I'm not aware of any software solution that would modify the touchpad to be a scroll pad or simply disable the 'mouse' section of the touchpad.

        But that would be nice, indeed.

In order to dial out, it is necessary to broaden one's dimension.
