I've used slack since 3.2 and its the most versatile distro if you know what you are doing. I think the simplicity lends itself to more security as well. A couple years ago, I ran the addicts.org shell server loaded with the kiddies and there was never a security issue with slackware. It seems like the newer distros are very uncomprimising when someone wants to 'do' something to their box that is outside the realm of your average newbie.
