We went to Ft. Sumter last year sometime, and it was definitely interesting. It's always odd to walk grounds where people have fought and died. BW, if you visit Charleston again, I'll recommend a restaurant called Carolina Chops somewhere downtown. We've always had excellent food and service when visiting there. And if you want to take more nature shots, a visit to the Magnolia plantation will give you a ton of opportunities. It's a few miles outside Charleston, but well worth the trip and somewhat high entr

I never really understood the passion that some had for Civil War history until I actually walked the former battlegrounds of a couple of conflicts. To bend down and pick up a cast bullet that emerged from the earth during a rainstorm and realize that that round was fired to kill a fellow countryman was a pretty sobering event.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure that SD ruling was purely a bid to put the whole issue in front of the supreme court again. With the recent changes in who is sitting there, the outcome might be frightful:(
I'm always impressed with people who know how to eat at a good restaurant even when they are by themselves. I still have a tendency to wield a book in such situations. Your descriptions made me hungry and I had to eat my lunch early because of you! Hah! I was thinking about what you said about professional waiters vs waiting as a job, and I think you are right. There is a significant difference in the level and nature of service that you receive from someone who has decided to make that a career rather

Glad I could be of assistance.:-D
I'm always irritated when I go to a nicer restaurant (anything over $20/plate.. cost of living here is low) and the waiter cannot tell me about the entrees.
I had a wonderful experience years ago helping a friend cook in his restaurant. He had a mandatory staff meeting EVERY DAY with all of the wait staff and kitchen staff, where the chefs would prepare the days meals and the wait staff wo
I'd love to see a person like her get into politics at the national level..... She is the type of person that we need to get people to rally around causes, laws, principles and American life.
Sadly, the people who would probably be best in political roles are the least likely to pursue them.
I'll buy that. However, slavery was the centerpiece of that issue, right?
It's the one that got the most attention, because it had the largest business impact and is of the most interest to historical studies. Mos

Well, thanks. But I really am just a hack at it. Now, people like my friend AT [immunologics.com] are really good.

Now, that was an amazing entry. I remembered you making that entry at the time and saying to myself, this is why I friended this guy. Thank YOU!
It is amazing the kinds of context that history can imbue to places and things and it shows why they are important to our collective memory. F
