Journal AssFace's Journal: only thing worse than canadianers? the french. 8

My fiancee's stepfather's mother died a few days ago. As you can imagine, we were really close. Close in the way that people that never met are. Actually, I might have met her, I don't recall. It was obviously very special.

As a result, I'm going to Cananda this weekend. I'd like to say that I'm psyched... but that would be lying.

Last night I went to the Border Cafe to celebrate the birthday of a friend of my fiancee. I'm not a huge fan of that place, but this girl apparently is.

Work is going pretty slow - my manager is out today - he is rarely out.

I have two current quests that I'm on (aside from my ever present quest for the "Holy Grail of the Net" - which for me would be to find a picture of a monkey having sex with a chicken):
1) find free access to historical sports data - specifically NCAA basketball. I think I can find pages for each individual team and then build up a database that way. (I'm going to try to run some neural net models against the data to see how it does in the sweet 16 - I don't follow sports at all, so I usually do better just literally covering my eyes and flailing were I to bet than if I actually "thought" about it - I proved this last year.)

2) I currently am a big fan of Oreilly's Safari (http://safari.oreilly.com), and since I am moving in May, the combination of the two means I no longer need my books... or at least not my technical books. So I am looking for a place to sell them - I looked on EBay and while they do have technical books there, from the ones that I looked at - even the brand new ones seem to last the entire duration of their auciton with no bids, even at very low and reasonable rates. I also checked out Half.com, but much like Amazon's used book sale, I'm not sure there is much of a turnover there. I will try craigslist locally and then I'm not sure where to go from there.

I borrowed a DJ Logic album from a friend today and ripped it out to Ogg - it is really good. Reminds me of DJ Shadow, UNKLE, and Handsome Boy Modelling School... all bands I like a lot (with the common theme of DJ Shadow being involved in all of them... but not DJ Logic).

Also - when farting at work - don't do it if you have headphones on. It is hard to judge how loud you are, and can lead to embarrassment. Not that I've... okay... I have.

  • Why don't you like Canadians/Canada?

Why don't I like Canada? Well, the easiest answer would be "all the damn Canadianers"
They have that cute toy money and a play government ;)

For the most part though - I'm just joking.

      • Toy money, I've heard it described as that before, but a play governemnt never heard of that description before. *L*
  • What books do you have and what price are you seeking for the set?

    • I'm not at home right now, so I don't know off hand what I have. But off the top of my head, I'd say "too many to know off the top of my head."

In front of me here I know that I have the Dynamic HTML O'Reilly book and the XML Pocket Reference.
At home I have at least 20-100 more books that I want to sell.
A lot of the O'Reilly Perl books.

I have to go home and make a list of the ones that I can get on safari.oreilly.com and which ones I can't - the ones that I can get off of there, I have no use for a paper copy of it.
      • do keep us posted... I always love a good o'reilly book, and my prefered reading venue is on the john, thus paper based reading is often prefered.
        • you need a laptop and wireless system ... but then maybe you'd never leave the john :)
          • Oh, I have the lappie and the wifi, it gets a tad warm on your bare legs, and I have one of the larger sized dell things so it's a tad awkward. However the though of a wifi hand-held is quite appealing until I investigated the price.
