Why Broadband Prices Haven't Decreased 336

pdragon04 writes "After a new technology is introduced to the market, there is usually a predictable decrease in price as it becomes more common. Laptops experienced precipitous price drops during the past decade. Digital cameras, personal computers, and computer chips all followed similar steep declines in price. Has the price of broadband Internet followed the same model? Shane Greenstein decided to look into it. "

Judge Recommends Guilty Verdict for Jack Thompson 235

GamePolitics is reporting that a Florida Judge has recommended that Jack Thompson be found guilty on 27 of 31 counts of misconduct and is awaiting a Florida Supreme Court verdict to back him up. Thompson is striking back with allegations against the Judge and others, complaining that loyalty oaths were never signed. "Tunis made 21 recommendations of guilt in relation to Thompson's participation in Strickland vs. Sony, an Alabama case in which the anti-game attorney represented the families of two police officers and a police dispatcher slain by 18-year-old Grand Theft Auto player Devin Moore. Tunis also recommended that Thompson be found guilty on four out of five counts relating to his 2006 attempt to have Rockstar's Bully declared a public nuisance in a case before Miami Judge Ronald Friedman. An additional two guilty counts stemmed from a non-video game matter."

Open Source BIND Alternative Launches 162

bednarz writes "A group of experts on Tuesday released an open source alternative to the BIND DNS server. The new software — dubbed Unbound 1.0 — is a recursive DNS server. From its first prototype in 2004, Unbound was designed to be a faster, more secure replacement for BIND. Unbound supports DNS security extensions (DNSSEC), which authenticate DNS lookups but are not yet widely deployed because they rely on a public key infrastructure. Unbound was released to open source developers by NLnet Labs, VeriSign, Nominet and Kirei."

Excuse my ignorance, but how many connections are "high latency, low bandwidth"

Dialup is high latency, low bandwidth.

Dialup? Slow latency.

I think your confused here. Latency is the time it takes for a packet to reach its destination. (And get back if talking round trip time) Bandwidth is how much data can be transmitted per second. See here

We spammers love you idiots who use spam filters. You were never going to buy from us or fall for our scheems anyway, so you do extra work to filter your e-mail and that way we are not bothered by you reporting us or attacking us. We are free to continue to waste your bandwidth and overflow your inbox, but you never see the spam and you leave us alone, to keep spamming those too ignorant to protect themselves. The complaints die down and we get what we want, the unknowing victims. What a great system.

Heck, our lobby group even points out to Congress how spam laws are not really needed, since people who really don't want the spam are free to filter it. That and a litte payola and we are free to phish for more victims.

Yea, keep "fighting spam" with lame filters, we love it. Thanks!
