John Carmack Says No Dedicated Servers For Rage 162

AndrewDBarker writes "Modern Warfare 2 will use a matchmaking setup powered by IWNet for online play (as we've discussed). It's too early to say what Rage will use, but Carmack indicated he believed the servers are something of a remnant of the early days of PC gaming. That said, he realizes the affinity many PC gamers have for them — and is glad Rage won't be leading the charge away from them. 'The great thing is we won't have to be a pioneer on that,' he says. 'We'll see how it works out for everyone else.'"

Can we just get Windows Seven out first?! Jebus.. I'm starting to think one reason Apple might be so successful is because they don't sweat the small stuff and release information about their NEXT OS even before their newest one isn't even released. This is PATHETIC and it makes me angry. I'm upgrading to Seven's beta tomorrow on my new pc, but all this talk about Eight makes me want to puke.

Collectively sue themselves by accident for making this stuff so readily available. Hell even industry insiders are now leaking movies and music to the general public. These four men may of gotten a guilty charge, but I too, don't expect them to see any jail time for them any time soon. They've revolutionized the way gets it's data and this is just the start of the revolution.

Submission + - NASA names space station treadmill after Colbert (sfgate.com)

willith writes: "Looks like the SF Chronicle is jumping the gun by an hour or so, but they've got an AP article up detailing the results of the International Space Station Node 3 naming contest (previously on Slashdot). Comedian and fake-pundit Stephen Colbert conducted a bombastic write-in campaign and repeatedly urged his show's fan base (the "Colbert Nation") to stuff the ballot box with his name, which resulted in "Colbert" coming in first in the write-in contest with almost a quarter-million votes. Although the Node 3 component will not be named "Colbert"--NASA has instead chosen to call it "Tranquility"--one of the Node 3 components will bear the honor: the second ISS treadmill, which will be installed in Node 3, will be named the Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill. The formal announcement will be made on air tonight at 22:30 EDT on the Colbert Report on Comedy Central by astronaut Sunita Williams."
