The problem with that is you might not "see" someone looking over your shoulder; however, TEMPEST, although old, is still used and people can see anything echoed to your screen from a distance or even through windows and walls.
Also, by seeing your password, a users is more inclined to make it easier because they can visually see it with their eyes and not in their Mind's eye.
