HAHA! You sweet summer child.
You must not have been on the Internet long.
One day, you will discover the horrors that lie behind Rule 34.

If breasts are the first thing you think of when you read the word "porn" in an article, then you're much too naive to comment on such things.

1990s called, and they want their stupid idea back.

If you're an old fart like I am, you might remember some early PC companies that sold "discount" PCs that had obtrusive ads plastered all over the screen that you couldn't dismiss. They were always there on the desktop, taking up lots of screen real estate. Sure, you saved some money, but the PC experience sucked.

I knew someone who bought one of those, and it was a nightmare.

Comment Re:This is what happens with fake money (Score 0) 33

No. That's actually what happens with "real" money. You go into a store to buy a gallon of milk. You give them $5, expecting change. Then, they say you need to give them two more dollars.

Your "real" money is changing in value on a daily basis this year.

Nah. It's just another way for people to easily "donate" to the cause. Also, there could be tax implications if you use the software for business.

I wish people would stop with the lottery nonsense. The lottery is entertainment. I could easily say that alcohol or sporting event tickets are a tax on stupid people too.

The rule is worded stupidly. All it needs to be is, "An AI may not perform any operation with the intention of harming humans."

Comment Don't create the data (Score 1) 81

If you don't want your cloud data shared, then don't create cloud data. I'm not saying what they're doing is right, but people are making it POSSIBLE for them to do it.

There are plenty of non-cloud devices that can achieve the same functions as the Amazon/Google crapware. Sure, it might be a little more cumbersome in some cases, but I have my network locked down as well as I can. I keep my untrusted devices (e.g. IP cameras) on a segregated network that has no access to the outside world. I then pull the data feeds from them to my own trusted server (using FOSS package), which is then able to be accessed via the external Internet with password protection.

There are other thermostats like the Emerson Sensi, which still do communicate with a cloud server, but not Google's or Amazon's. Some offer non-cloud management via internal API, such that you could lock them down in a similar way to what I've done with untrusted cameras.

It's not silly. There is more and more strong evidence to suggest that time isn't even an actual thing. Time may very well just be how we perceive cause and effect actions in the quantum realm. It's possibly all an illusion like color. The color purple is a made-up thing. There is no "purple" wavelength of light. The same is quite possibly true for time and gravity.
