Unlike most holidays that celebrate for historic and religious events, this holiday celebrates the worker.
Most folks assume that there was some long-ago event that started the charge for a 'Labor Day'. There was not.

This means that this holiday should remain current; important. For as long as there are those who work - Labor Day has meaning.
If there is a strike in your area... go drive by and honk your horn (a show of support). In any case, look around at the highways, bridges, buildings, homes, cars, furniture and even the clothes you are wearing - and think about the work that others put into it, and think about the contribution your own work makes.

[UPDATE] While Labor Day is an American Holiday, the need for reflection on the power of Labor does not need to be an America-only thing. Reading journals of some Slashers from other countries (like Mercado) has me thinking of this. Reflect with me, even if your government doesn't recognize today as an official holiday! Your work is important, too.
