Single chip ethernet adapter, including TCP offload engine. Just add RJ45 jack, magnetics, a few passives and a 25MHz crystal... and you have a nice memory mapped interface to the internet from your favorite 8-bit microprocessor :-)

For prototyping, with a breakout board. I'll lay out a PCB containing the ethernet jack, the various passives etc. and then the data/address bus and various other control pins to a set of 0.1 inch headers (either sockets for pushing breadboard wires into, or pins for plugging in directly)
