And so now, please, explain to silly European... If the bill passes, and I go studying there, and scientists show me at lectures all kinds of scientific evidence of how Solar System emerged, how life could have appear, how species evolve one into another and _then_ they make an exam, I can still tell them to stuff it and answer, that some higher entity did it and they still have to give me an 'A' or I'll sue them? Now that would be a way to get an easy master's degree in science...

Hi, I'm from Europe, and I was wondering how it goes here. As I read above: it's approved to use. But I also found some EU directive about using certain pesticides telling that mamber countries are supposed to withdraw clothianidin till October 31 2010 and until then using it was allowed only with careful monitoring with bees in mind (assuming that I understood all I read;) ). And I'm soooo very curious if it was just on paper, or in real life too? Cause as always, paper is one thing, and careless people is another...

Go on, troll me more. I'm kinda working in general "cancer curing" area. I'm watching news that pop up from time to time, mostly about gliomas. You can say I'm waiting for a breakthrough. And you know what? Yes, they've found a cure! For mice. And melanomas were processed too, and guess what? It actually worked. For mice. Probably kidneys, liver, stomach, name it and you have it. And yes, for mice. So this news is not an excuse for me to celebrate, yet. I'll wait for successful clinical trial.

Hi, happened to me too. Long ago I was writing master's degree thesis on other subject with other adviser. I sent it to hell and changed the topic (and the adviser) totally when I heard: Hi, can you bring me your results? Cause I'd like to write an article... I was outraged, but none else seemed to share my hot feelings about it and I found no support in my will to fight the system. Seems everyone else adopted, so welcome to the club:)

Submission + - Enterprise adoption of open source beyond Linux?

An anonymous reader writes: I am working with a couple of large companies that are purchasing web and collaboration software stacks from Microsoft, IBM and others. These are for thousands of end users and are (supposedly) ready for multiple data center deployment and other big-corp requirements. I have suggested some open source alternatives such as Liferay and Drupal, and the technical people are interested but management types are not. They have given a few reasons, such as concerns over supportability and enterprise-readiness, but my feeling is that they are being won over by FUD from large vendors and the fact that most corps do not have significant deployments of FOSS technologies beyond Linux yet. All this seems to be in line with a survey on web app servers by OpenLogic: http://www.openlogic.com/news/press/12.22.08.php.

So my questions are: How have you persuaded larger enterprises to adopt server-side OSS, beyond server-room Linux and a couple of demo JBoss boxes under someone's desk? And which products are truly ready for enterprise-scale deployment?

LoneAdminOK writes: I started working for a small company in the middle of January as their IT Manager. I am the first actual 'IT Guy' that they have had, before me it was someone that performed another job within the company and just handled the IT on the side. They have gotten large enough that they needed a full-time IT person to handle things.

The problem that I am running into is that most of the software I am finding in the network and on people's computers isn't owned by the company. The person before me would just 'get it' from somewhere and install in on the computers as needed. This is putting me in an bad position when I have to reinstall the program or find it to install on someone elses computer. Often I am telling people that we don't have it or we have to buy another license and they get mad at me because the other guy said that we had it. I can't even tell where the versions of Windows Server that they are running came from. The only one I know is legit is the one that is installed on an HP Server with the OEM sticker on it.

How have any of you handled a situation like this. I don't install 'borrowed programs' in a production environment because I know that if the BSA got wind of this it would all fall on me when they stormed in. I'm to pretty for prison.
