demiforce.parodius.com has the translation patches for both ff2j and ff3j. Both are pretty good as far as the translation goes. You may have to come up with your own roms though.

the gameboy final fantasies really aren't; the final fantasy legend games are actually the first three Saga games, whose snes incarnation, romancing saga 1-3, was huge in japan but unreleased over here. we've gotten the saga frontier games, which at least superficially resemble the gameboy ones. Square changed the name no doubt to prosper off of the success of the final fantasies on the bigger consoles. Final Fantasy Adventure is really titled Seiken Densetsu- you might know its sequel named as Secret of Mana. The sequel to secret of mana, seiken densetsu 3, was also fan-translated, and very well at that- do a search for it.
