Ive seen Germans quote on the order of half their paycheck to pay for all the free goodies. A major part of the reason why government regulated healthcare is so expensive is due to barriers towards new hospitals. Current hospitals must agree that there is need for another hospital. When your competition has to approve of you existing, you are screwed. Free market needs room to work, stifling regulation is why the housing supply is woefully inadequate and government built housing will never match the speed and efficiency of the free market. Neither the speed nor quality nor price. In NYC they built a 3 million dollar public restroom, private sector $300,000 and much nicer and well maintained.
