The OP never answers the question as to how the investments in AI will pay out. No current monetization model can get to break even much less profit. So, eventually investors are going to figure out the "pass the cash" scheme and that AGI isn't going to happen with the current approach, i.e. LLMs. But along with this mega bubble is the real estate bubble, debt bubble (aka bonds), and other stocks are also grossly overvalued. If any of these bubbles pop, then I don't see nay stop gap to keep them for all popping in rapid succession. If they do, the fallout will be global and the recovery time will be measured in decades.

Huxley's Brave New World had mechanical incubators, but at least you needed sperm and egg cells to make a human. It didn't have enough imagination or bravado to suggest flaky skin cells bathed in sperm could produce one. I'd say that just because you can do that, doesn't mean you should. It seems like this would make the female version obsolete, or at least relegated to baby carrying, that is until we come up with mechanical incubators. Ugh!!!

This is right out of the dystopian Brave New World and should be outlawed. "Future" children are existing children still in the womb and parents seeking these tests (and medical facilities offering them) are willing to sacrifice the unborn for their own comfort. This demeans all human life. I'm all for genetic counseling for potential parents looking to have babies. But after conception, "potential" parents ARE parents, and "future" children ARE children. To say otherwise is to euphemize murder. What comes next? Tossing the old and infirm into ovens??

I also learned to touch type in middle school (we called it Junior High at the time) on a manual typewriter. I'm still writing software. managing networks, and producing documentation. I don't know how I'd get all that done without being a touch typist/keyboardist. My productivity is affected not only by being able to type without looking at the keyboard, but also forcing myself to maximize use of keyboard shortcuts. I wrote this without having to look at the keyboard. Sadly, I love clicky keyboards (Cherry MX Blue). I'm not sure what my colleagues think of that but if I was using those with hunt and peck, I'd probably drive them nuts.

It seems like the voters of Connecticut need to elect better legislators who don't try to control every little thing. OTOH, publishing a breakdown of movie time vs trailer time isn't going to change the behavior of movie goers very much. I actually want to see the trailers and even if I didn't, I don't want to try to find my seat in a dark theater so I'll be showing up in time to get my seat early. I think most people will be in that class. So the objection of the theater owners seem overblown. Still, CT gov't should find useful things to work on or trim the state budget by 50% (my personal recommendation).

The last 25 years have been a disaster for the US Intelligence Community (USIC). I say this as one who spent a few years in this apparatus at the collector and three letter agency level. Even during my time, I saw how raw intelligence morphed to fit the narrative of decision makers whom the IC was to inform. But those were "the good old days." Now this is looking more like a party organ than a force multiplier, unless you mean a force against the American citizen. What a terrible waste!!

I don't have a particular fondness for CISA since it goes beyond its public mandate to secure IT and OT systems and probably is gathering data for the US Intelligence Community. But let's get the name correct. Its full title is Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and has nothing to do with Insurance. The "infrastructure" aspect is supposed to point to securing Operational Technology (OT) which means protecting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and SCADA systems so hackers can't bring down the electrical grid, poison the water, damage gas pipelines, etc. However, I believe CISA has identified "information" as infrastructure and that is where things get sticky especially if disinformation and misinformation are roped in. No US government agency should be in the business of regulating the accuracy or suitability of information content since they will always slide into becoming a Ministry of Truth (see 1984 by George Orwell).

The State Department is coloring outside the lines with their cybersecurity initiatives. If only they were going after foreign actors, but they aren't. The open secret that nobody is taking about is that there is no longer a distinction between foreign policy and domestic policy. That broke down during the Obama administration and is completely gone in the Biden police state. Harris will only push that even farther. Da Svi Dania Comrade Blinken.

We should be shocked that the CEO of a platform is being arrested for providing a way to send messages that aren't immediately seen, cataloged and targeted by totalitarian governments. I think the OP is more likely a Russian plant than that the Kremlin uses Telegram.

Isn't it funny how there is suddenly a spate of stories about bad actors on Telegram? It's almost like there is a coordinated effort to take down yet another encrypted app and of course to blame it on "right-wing extremists." There are plenty of activists in totalitarian governments that use WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and others simply to report on what is going in their countries. The fact that the US is encouraging the black balling of Telegram (something they started in earnest after going after Tik Tok) should be a whole lot more concerning than conspiracies about right-wing extremists. Governments can do much more harm to their citizens than a few right wing wackos. And apparently, whatever actions are being taken aren't really being hidden by the use of these channels so some of the channel black balling is not really necessary.

I'm not sure what Lewis is getting at here but his description of SBF sounds like that of a sociopath. Whether there is criminality in his behavior or not doesn't speak to the level of risk his behavior engendered in the past and would likely do so in the future. I'm not sure prison will change this sociopathy but it would at least keep him from engaging in that for the next 25 years. Perhaps by that time we will have a better way to either rehabilitate the offender or isolate him from opportunities to repeat the behavior. Then again, it seems like a mass delusion to consider crypto an investment vehicle. That wasn't the purpose that Nakamoto designed a blockchain transaction system for. I would have preferred that it remained a way to transact business without a middleman, onerous regulation, and huge fees. The idea that it might become the primary means of transacting business, as in CBDC's, might be even a greater threat and antipattern than crypto as an investment vehicle. The privacy concerns are monumental.
