Adaere's Journal: David Blaine

Illusionist David Blaine has been attacked again, this time with paint balloons. Could it be that Britons don't like this American coming to their country to act like an idiot? Or is it just a sad fact that people like to prod and annoy things in glass cases and cages? Maybe there should have been a sign warning onlookers not to thump the glass or something. I wonder what Blaine expected would happen as a result of this stunt?

I have a hard time feeling sorry for this fellow. When you make yourself an attraction, expect things like this to happen. Personally, I think as long as no laws are broken when the harrasment happens (unlike this fellow breaking into a place to launch his "attack") I see no reason to worry about it.

I'm not worrying, just wondering. I think it's kind of funny, actually. Maybe it's just that he's so serious, like he's doing something important or worthwhile. He compared it to climbing a mountain because it's there. Someone who is so serious about standing on a pole for days or sitting in a box wearing a diaper is just asking for public ridicule. Maybe he's stirred the desire of people to throw things at people in stocks.

Okay, so I get the idea that this guy has been sitting in a box for 20 days. Why are people upset about this?

I don't know. It's probably a combination of factors. He's an American, he's putting himself on display in a public place, he's very serious about it.
