How about wood/metal shop? Yes, that's where a number of future convienience store clerks tend to waste their time, but since coding *is* building, and carpentry is a mix of science and art (much the way programming is) then didn't any slashdotters take shop and enjoy it?
My woodshop teachers name was Mr. Hammer (really! I swear!). I have a shop in my garage with smaller versions of the big industrial tools we used in school. I take equal pride in building a nice piece of furniture as I do from coding a project to completion.
