Comment Re:USA is losing because we think we're winning (Score 1) 181

Every country's people think they are better than every other country's people. Except a handful of self-hating Americans.

I don't hate myself, I don't hate my country, I hate my image, an image given to me by people who I strongly disagree with (and this doesn't mean everyone from my country or a party or a lifestyle or belief). People who have wrapped my true identity underneath their ideals, beliefs, achievements and laziness. (These are different people, but their grouped image gives me my image to outsiders, the proverbial "they") I have also been imaged by people from the outside, while I can't blame them too much, because I can't honestly say that they have done my image worse than my own country has. If Sex and the City, was not a popular show and let's say Nova was more popular than S&tC, then my external image would be at least, smarter or more inquisitive and I'd personally like that, but it is not so, WE did that. Countries used to hate us, but they hated us because we were almost all around better, now they actually have some basis for knocking our faults that used to be our strengths (Graduation Rates, Science Advances, The ability to justify, plan, WIN and end a war, etc.) and I hate that, because that isn't me, but I'm American, so by default, it is me. So again, I am not Self-Hating, I am not Country hating, I am stereotyped and I should have the right to refuse to succumb to something I am not and to be able to tell someone what I actually believe shouldn't be a demarcation, especially in this country. If that sounds like whining, then fine, let that be part of my image, because at least I had a hand in it. But here's the thing, THAT is my right from God, as interpreted by some dead dudes who wrote this crazy old paper a couple hundred years ago.

NASA Considers Plans for Permanent Moon Base 353

el crowbar sent us a link to an MSNBC article detailing NASA's plans for a moon base. The permanently staffed structure could begin construction sometime in 2010, with six-month duty rotations the norm by 2025. Interestingly, the space agency is looking far afield for technical expertise. Consultants on the project include individuals from Caterpillar, Norcat, Boeing, and other manufacturing concerns. Right now the only detail for placement and purpose is 'on the rim of a crater near one of the poles', but the article outlines a few other ideas that enterprising individuals have in mind for a moon base. Besides helium-3 mining and lunar hotels, do you have any good ideas for a moon base startup?

Microcups Made of Nanopaper 144

Roland Piquepaille writes "Researchers at the University of Arkansas have created long nanowires with titanium dioxide and assembled them into pieces of 'nanopaper.' This flexible paper can fold into 3D nanostructures such as tubes, bowls or cups. This kind of nanopaper could soon be used for applications such as bacteria filters, decomposition of pollutants and chemical warfare agents. But first the University needs to find industrial partners. Read more for additional details and some pictures of these microcups."

Ticketmaster to Start Online Ticket Auction 390

Jason1729 writes "According to the NY Times, ticketmaster is going to begin auctioning off the best tickets to events online. They claim it's to eliminate scalping, but in truth it guarantees every seat will be scalped for the highest price with all the money going to ticketmaster. It also eliminates the possibility of getting a decent seat by waiting in line or being lucky."

though they can do little to stop Microsoft from adapting Windows to x86 Macs they recognize the fact that OS X has a very dedicated following and Apple's computers will only be a better product now that they will have the ability to dual boot with Windows
[page 2]
Linux will no longer be the sole x86 alternative to Windows, it will have to compete with OS X for this spot, though this will never be an apples
