Comment By weight! (Score 1) 324

For any mileage based system, it must include the weight of the vehicle.

EVs and hybrids generally weigh more for the same size vehicle due to battery weight. Heavy vehicles wear out roads quicker than for lighter vehicles, and should be charged more for the same mileage traveled.

Because it works, is safe, and inexpensive.

All things that cannot be said about the non-preventative, short-lived, many times fatal, expensive experimental so-called C19 vaccines politically released under EUAs. But then this has always been about the money and not about public health. Otherwise the CDC, FDA, and others would have stressed that being fit and not obese is key, along with taking vitamin D and Zinc. And they would recognize that natural immunity (from being infected) data now shows that it is superior to these "vaccines" in preventing further infection. But none of that helps big pharma give the heads in government kickbacks.

Yes, that was a major screw-up by Microsoft. They promoted a technology for always updated apps, much like Java Web Start. We spent considerable time migrating JWS code to Silverlight, only to be hung out to dry. Apps are important, and impossible to replace with web-based tools as they then suggested. Then Microsoft introduced their crappy UWP "solution", NOT. So... years later JWS code is still in production and being used world-wide for the application since no better options are available.

Nah, why would we want something stable and carbon neutral like nuclear where we could sell excess power to other states? Let's instead get rid of that and replace it with more unreliable wind and solar and hope we have enough water and links to other states with better policies to pull us through.

Comment Radio communications / observations (Score 2) 94

A couple of things computers do poorly that pilots do generally well are:

Communications. Interpreting what ATC is telling you can be easy, or very difficult depending on where you are and the experience of ATC. Training software to interpret what is spoken, often with poor radio quality, odd dialects, or with stepped on transmissions is near impossible.

Observation. ATC calling to ask for visual assistance in regards to another plane. Another tough nut to crack for software to interpret and respond intelligently.

Yes, you still need at least one meatsack in the cockpit for now.

Yes, the NW US did experience high temperatures last week. They were higher in the 1930s when CO2 was lower... but let's just ignore that. Also ignore that the Central US experienced cooler than normal temperatures last week. But that was ignored because otherwise the story that there is some "global" crisis does not resonate, and that must happen so more federal money can be thrown around.

I would resign from any such company. They have no right to demand I take an experimental drug approved for emergency use.

Additionally, I already had Covid and multiple studies show that there is no added benefit with all the risks to do so. We should not be selfish. Instead, let the rest of the world have our dosses for their most vulnerable that want them.

Exactly. Of course those of us who listened to non politically motivated (paid) experts already had realized this from the data.

For those of us that had it early (in 2019) where it was diagnosed as a bad cold, 2020 was nothing but corporate funded political madness by the CDC and other so-called health agencies. To do so they:

Dismiss effective low-cost drugs that would have lowered the number and length of following infections, so that you can scare everyone into massively funding new experimental drugs.
Didn't suggest that people take Zinc and Vitamin D to help reduce severity by strengthening the immune system.
Ignore the data showing that the most vulnerable are elderly with other debilitating factors - and then ship infected patients to those nursing homes.
Encourage wearing masks that have no effect on virus spread, but do hold many negative ones.
Stop children, who are not vulnerable in any rational number, from attending school - leading to higher suicide rates.
Destroyed small businesses why elevating large box stores during useless lock-downs.
