Thank you. The whole thing (including Shroedinger) is quite silly. Change the cat's "is" situation to "either or", emphasize the above experiment's "could", and it might make a wee bit of sense. Otherwise ... totally asinine: nothing can be here _and_ there, moving up _and_ down. It's a contradiction of terms, a misuse of the language, and certainly not logical _or_ science. It all ranks right up there with some of the more asinine religious discussions of Medieval times, like how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Back in the 30's, this guy just used a pipe to move cold water up from the depths:

Okay, so it didn't work out very well. But it sure proved the concept.

I faintly remember another experiment back in the 30's or 40's, one done on the really cheap and simple. I seem to recall a bunch of scrap iron (old radiators and such) cabled together and sunk into the depths right off the Cuban shoreline. The cable ran to another huge chunk of scrap iron submerged in a big asphalt-lined pond on shore, just up from the beach, nicely heated by all that free tropical sun. I don't remember the KW generated, but it was not trivial, and it was all tremendously cheap and simple and almost brainless. Sure wish I could find the link: it probably came from "Analog" magazine back in The Day.

I don't even think the builder even used fancy thermocouples: he just grabbed the voltage (and amps) that came from the temperature difference between the cold (deep) and hot (surface) ends.

Let's face it: copyright theft _is_ stealing, and _should_ be against the law. If there are "extenuating circumstances", exceptions to the rule ... hey, change the rules! But don't blame the owners and authors. Okay, you can blame Mickey Mouse (what a rip!) ... but who's greedy when they refuse to consider paying for what they're stealing? Hey, I've downloaded, copied, played my share of music (looking at YOU, Dire Straits, sorry 'bout that). And maybe a few movies from Youtube or wherever. But they're very few, I've paid more than my fair share for vinyl records back in The Day (admittedly 60's and 70's was a long time ago, but I haven't liked much since then ... well, okay, except maybe Dire Straits, and I DO like Broken Peach although I haven't stolen any of their stuff yet). We need to change the copyright laws to make them more fair, more sensible ... and maybe poke Disney in the eye on the way.
