I'm pretty sure Alan Turing and William Shockley didn't intend their inventions to turn out like this.

We live in a culture that values wasting energy on Bitcoin mining far more than environmental concerns, I don't hold out much hope for CO2 reduction by any means now. It's just human nature to value short term gain over long term impact I'm afraid.
Given electricity shortages are starting to appear in China, I wonder if it might have an impact on the massive energy drains that are the Chinese crypto mining farms. Bitcoin is a eco nightmare and the low hanging fruit if energy conservation is needed.
Amazing what a difference a decade makes. 10 years ago a 30 minute hiccup in service in an internet company would be par for the course and barely noticed. Now everybody loses their minds over it.
If we weren't all internet junkies before then we sure are now, god forbid it ever goes down indefinitely.
âoeToday a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the Weather.â
real USA year-on-year price inflation seems to be around the 10% mark and rising, anything lower than that is a losing bet.
I'm not in the US, but keep reading that it's somehow "the Republican's fault', or "Donald Trump's fault', rather than the selfish behavior of irresponsible individuals, irrespective of political affiliation. It seems on par with blaming the entire Muslim population for global terrorism.
I'm more wondering what $100,000 will buy in 2021 if the QE-induced dollar inflation carries on any further.
and 'backed' means... what? Just that somebody agrees to trade your goods for a particular price. This is just the same deal with Bitcoin as with stocks, fiat, precious metals and so on. All of them have value only because somebody is willing to trade them, without that they are all equally worthless.
If they're disabling http traffic, then I hope they're not offering any click-through options for miss-matched site certificates either, or it kind-of defeats the purpose. We all know users will blindly click through anything to get to their websites.
Unlike in 2008, in 2020 almost all big websites exclusively use https encrypted traffic. Spoofing DNS may be possible, spoofing site certificates is not.
Plague is only a concern right now because of receny bias.Ii think the other 3 horsemen will be much more of an issue in the near future.
"targeting 50% of its power to come from renewable sources by 2030"
Lithium batteries tend to have a 10 year lifespan. If they install it in 2021, won't it be dead by 2030?
Al might be even better. It is known as 'solidified electricity', and that electrical energy can be released later on by burning the powdered form.
Prayer is a mantra to induce a state of hopefulness which in turn reduces stress and improves well-being. Which is a good thing. Don't knock it!
All power corrupts, but we need electricity.
