Comment Manufacturing != R&D (Score 2) 82

Tesla did a lot of R&D on the 4680 cell and maintains a "proof of concept" internal manufacturing line, now they'll work with manufacturing partners to produce those cells in high volumes. Just like TSMC manufactures chips that are designed elsewhere, and Foxconn assembles iPhones that are designed elsewhere.

But, you know, feel free to invest your life savings in shorting TSLA stock. That always works out.

Comment The problem with your argument... (Score 1) 401

The problem with your argument is that you seem to be talking about the EVs and charging infrastructure that existed 10 years ago (i.e.only useful for "around the town driving", with a few slow public chargers) and making projections about EVs 10 years from now.

Both vehicle range and charger availability is wildly better now than it was 10 years ago. Modern EVs have 250-300 mi range (and high-end EVs are in the 500 mi range now), and there's a large fast-charging infrastructure (i.e. the Tesla supercharger network).

10 years from now batteries & charging infrastructure will be exponentially better. At the rate that batteries are getting cheaper, then it's likely that 10 years from now EVs will be the cheaper option for most people, for comparable range, and comparable "refueling time". Technology moves fast.

If you don't like it, then buy an Android.

There are hundreds of other consumer electronics that run SW but which are restricted by the manufacturer on what SW they are allowed to run, including (but not limited to): microwaves, televisions, cars, refrigerators, video game consoles, DVRs, cable boxes, routers, digital thermostats, digital watches, air conditioners, etc., etc.

Comment it's not that complicated (Score 0) 381

FB and Twitter have policies against incitement of violence--and they actually enforce those policies. Does that mean that every piece of content on FB or Twitter is completely perfect? No, because that's nothing is perfect.

Parler doesn't have sufficient policies, and more importantly they do not have a moderation mechanism to enforce the policies they have--which is basically why Parler exists at all.

Apple, Google, and Amazon are under no obligation to provide services a company that (directly or indirectly) supports the violent overthrow of a democratically elected government.
