Comment Drumming Up Support (Score 1) 602

He wouldn't happen to "support" all these initiatives to drum up votes in Florida's upcoming primary, you know, being that much of the US space program (or whats left of it) is based in Florida? Seriously people, its obvious, its supporting a local cause, just like supporting agriculture subsidies in the mid-west or assistance to automotive companies when in Michigan. Its a ploy for support.

Can I please say one thing on this? IMHO, there are many more intelligent people on /. that I love reading comments from. Every single time this guy comes up in a story, I place a snide comment, and I usually get a good chuckle. Its not that his ideas are totally fucked up, I just get the HIstory Channel's "Ancient Aliens: vibe fom him. To me, you guys on /. are the smartest people I know, and thank god its an amalgamation of thought, because you can pick and choose what you identify from articles. Can we please stop holding ANYONE as an authoriy on ANYTHING?

They've driven everyone away that would want to help with their "in-crowd" tactics. No reason to help anymore because of the gang mentality. When politics become more important than information, nobody wants to lift a finger to make corrections when their hard work is deleted because its deemed extraneous.

Okay what about your house, I bet it's mortgaged so the bank owns it. Oh, you own your house outright, fine but who enforces it? When someone tries to take it from you it's a government giving you a licence to live there as long as you pay property taxes.

Loved the excellent points you brought up. Wanted to add that we shouldn't forget about Eminent Domain when it comes to your home and/or property. The government can come and take it from you anytime, for any reason, as long as you are compensated with the "fair market" value that they decide.

I'm waiting for that creepy dude who is always pushing the Vampire book that he is writing with all the creepy sodomy and other freakiness in it to weigh in (its like Nocturnal: Vampiron Galaxy or some nonsense). He never stops talking about it, and will almost twist any conversation to fit in his offer for you to come and download the first few chapters free (you can even create your own fan fiction stories based off his initial work, so get that perverted mind moving!). I can't even read a story about eBooks without thinking of this guy's nightmarish novel anymore, and since one of you /.ers was nice enough to post a bit from it on some previous story, I'm damaged forever now. I know other people remember this guy!

I am a 40 year old single dad. I had a co-worker post almost this exact same comment on twitter a few years back. The funny thing is he missed more work from getting shit faced at the bar than I ever missed from staying home with sick kids.

In my experience, single childless people miss more work than married or parents.

Yeah, they have better things to do. They aren't bogged down with snot-nosed kids and nagging wives. They don't live to work, they work to live. You leave your 9-5 job to come home to your 5-12 job of dealing with the problems of the people who you chose to complicate your life with.
