tetrahedrassface writes: "Fremont, CA, March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Well respected open source site Slashdot.org intends to roll out a pay as you go feature for its moderation system by the first of April, 2011. The feature termed Mod-Now will allow users to moderate comments after they have purchased Slashpoints®. Slashpoints® will be available in the same manner subscriptions are currently handled, but will allow users with credits to moderate comments even if they don't have moderation points. The current fee is six Slashpoints® for a dollar, and each comment moderation will cost 3 Slashpoints®. Says founder Rob Malda, "For years we've allowed only the good commentators and moderators to moderate comments in our system, but we think that this new upcoming implementation will be more democratic. Of course it is like an omlette, and we'll adjust as necessary" The changes are widely expected to go live by April 1'st."

The Saturn Fly-By 83

Jamie noted that today's Astronomy Picture of the Day is actually a video of Saturn built by compiling actual photographs taken by Cassini in 2004. Is Daylight Saving Time Bad For You? 333

Hugh Pickens writes "According to experts on circadian rhythms, the hour shift in sleep schedule from Daylight Saving Time can have serious effects on some people's health, particularly in people with certain pre-existing health problems. One study found that men were more likely to commit suicide during the first few weeks of Daylight Saving Time (DST) than at any other time during the year, and another study showed that the number of serious heart attacks jumps 6% to 10% on the first three workdays after DST begins. Dr. Xiaoyong Yang, an assistant professor of comparative medicine and cellular and molecular physiology at Yale University, theorizes that shifts in biologic rhythms could trigger harmful inflammatory or metabolic changes at the cellular level, to which these individuals may be more susceptible."
