Comment Full disclosure takes a hit (Score 1) 156

which projects are now going to close their doors to full disclosure? this was posted on the ircd's own bug reporting systems and was publicly visible. if it were not, and only the developers and higher level users (such as the nodes of efnet or freenode) should be able to see reports of this nature, this sort of attack may not have happened and the ircd's could have been silently patched without anyone knowing.

on the other hand, if you close your doors, you obviously have something that requires hiding, drawing more attention.

what will projects do next?

Although this is completely off topic....You say Muslims spread to countries by just going there and settling there. 4G was supposed to be a high speed standard that allowed all users with a 4G enabled phone to get those high speeds. but, turns out that there are at least 3 specifications in use, and major manufacturers are picking sides (apple with LTE), making your new phone incompatible with your current network, forcing you to switch.

iphone5, i wouldn't put it on as a flop, but still an embarrassment, an embarrassment that apple assumed that their customers were stupid enough to buy the 4S from them again, just because they changed the number from 4S to 5 and re-released the same phone, and the pain is, they were right, their customers are that stupid.

sorry, mis-read. Windows 8 i wouldnt say is a flop, its a flop in waiting, or a success in waiting. its too early to tell as of yet if it will or will not be a flop as its market share is still increasing. http://betanews.com/2012/12/03/like-it-or-not-windows-8-usage-rises/, its also increasing pretty quickly.

Facebook IPO wasnt a gaffe, it was a hedge fund scam. facebook was advised to give their IPO at a much higher value than they knew it could sustain, and the advisers hedged against facebook. made a lot of rich people richer, and fucked over some other rich people, and also fucked over some not so rich people.

as for apple maps, that deserves to be number 1, why the hell did apple even bother to release such a poor piece of software...

The main problem is, microsoft put a lot of time and effort into making sure the desktop environment is more or less the same, visually, to the end user from version to version. In the last 2 years, ubuntu has gone through at least 3 different desktop versions. Stop trying to be "not windows" and accept the fact that microsoft have put a lot of effort behind the desktop being the way it is.

Standardize a basic layout and design and stick too it.

Also, GUI needs moving to the kernel, or at least it needs to be a kernel driver, GUI in linux os's at the minute is slow, even hardware accelerated GUI is slow in linux.

2. wouldnt ever street these cars are to drive need wifi? unless the plan is to connect to the infrastructure network via 3G, which dies the second a single spec of rain is in the air.

3. there is a reason a plane has a pilot, people wont fly if the plane is flown by computer (which actually does most of the work now anyway), people also wont allow a computer to drive their car for them without someone being sat at the wheel to take control "just incase".

Submission + - iGoogle goes to the graveyard (google.com)

Bizzeh writes: "it seems that iGoogle is the next google product to be going to the graveyard. From Google: "We originally launched iGoogle in 2005 before anyone could fully imagine the ways that today's web and mobile apps would put personalized, real-time information at your fingertips. With modern apps that run on platforms like Chrome and Android, the need for something like iGoogle has eroded over time, so we’ll be winding down iGoogle on November 1, 2013, giving you a full 16 months to adjust or easily export your iGoogle data.""

6 months, out of courtesy. but really, your not required to give any sort of ongoing support unless its in some sort of written contract in place stating how much you will do for free, and for how long, and how much everything else will cost the client. its usually best to aim for a £100/hr for software dev and set your self a minimum amount that you would be willing to work for.

Submission + - Why do we still use Mozilla/X.Y?

Bizzeh writes: "Why do we still stick to the legacy Mozilla/X.Y structure in web browser user agents? surely by now, no script, server or website uses the mozilla version number anymore and it is simply there because nobody can be bothered changing it. isnt it about time browser developers drop it entirely or switch to naming their user agent with their own company name, rendering engine or browser name?"
