CBS News has learned that 13,000+ unaccompanied minors are being held in U.S. custody for an average of 120 hours, far longer than the 72 hours allowed by law. More migrants are attempting to cross into the U.S. now than in the past 20 years, according to @DHSgov Sec. Mayorkas

BREAKING: CBS Reports DHS Has Detained 13,000+ Unaccompanied Kids at the Border, Calls It a 'Crisis'

The Biden administration couldn't wait to stop the "wait in Mexico" policy, and this is just the beginning of surges of illegal immigration by people literally wearing shirts demanding that Joe Biden let them in! There is another ugly aspect of it - the Biden administration is holding people briefly in detention facilities at (reportedly) up to 7X the designed capacity and then letting them go. Now something like 25% or more of them have Covid too. The Biden administration doesn't care where they go after the ongoing border super-spreader event so they could be heading to your area now, certainly without vaccinations, and probably without masks, jobs, or prospects. Well, some will have career plans, and with police departments being defunded the sky is the limit.

On the plus side there seems to be a chance that they will soon have amnesty and eventually be able to vote. (They'll be informed voters too, won't they?)

We're talking about children WHO WERE SEPARATED FROM THEIR ACTUAL, REAL PARENTS by DHS under trump's direction. More than five thousand families.

Maybe this can be the next conversation starter at those adults' conversation . . .

Most European nations are not meeting their defense spending obligations to NATO, they under-fund defense. That gives them a lot of resources to allocate for other things. If there is a conflict that may not work out so well.

The current system is most likely unsustainable due to demographics.

Jimmy Carter had a meaningful hand in the debacle that was the revolution in Iran. And then when the Iranians took US embassy staff as hostages his military intervention was a disaster.

How Ayatollah Khomeini suckered Jimmy Carter

As reported by the BBC, the Ayatollah Khomeini, in January 1979, secretly sought Carter’s assistance in overcoming opposition from Iran’s military, still loyal to the shah. Khomeini promised that if he could return to Iran from exile in France, which the United States could facilitate, he would prevent a civil war, and his regime would not be hostile to Washington.

The soon-to-be Supreme Leader of Iran certainly knew a sucker when he saw one. What Carter did in response to Khomeini’s pledge is not entirely clear from the newly declassified materials, but Khomeini did return; the military either fell into line or was ruthlessly purged; and Iran switched 180 degrees from being a strategic US ally to being one of our most implacable adversaries.

AleRunner writes: "Nearly one in five people who have had Covid-19 are diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder such as anxiety, depression or insomnia within three months of testing positive for the virus"
Natalie Grover writes in the Guardian. Although "people with a pre-existing mental health diagnosis" are 65% more likely to get COVID so is may be that this is partly explained by doctors diagnosing illness that would otherwise be missed, the article states that "the rate is double the rate for influenza" and unexpectedly high so other explanations are needed and the cause is now under investigation. The scientists state that it's "not at all implausible that Covid-19 might have some direct effect on your brain and your mental health" especially after studies showing neurological and neuropsychiatric complications of Covid-19. “It’s difficult to judge the importance of these findings" says the article however they will add very much to existing worries about long COVID and potential long term economic and social damage from COVID-19.

States scramble to carry out Trump’s coronavirus travel order

After a weekend of panicked calls and emergency meetings, federal and state officials were still struggling Monday with how to carry out stringent new travel restrictions ordered by the Trump administration and where to quarantine passengers arriving from China to control the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.

In interviews, state officials said the order came on Friday with no advance notice and little planning.

The restrictions ban non-U.S. citizens who recently visited China from entering the country and quarantine Americans who visited Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, within the past 14 days. (Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and flight crew members are exempted from the ban.)
