Submission + - SPAM: NASA steps up commercial space race

coondoggie writes: As it looks to significantly reshape its future, NASA today said it would partner with the US Air Force Research Laboratory to develop a technology roadmap for use of reusable commercial spaceships.

The study of reusable launch vehicle, or RLVs will focus on identifying technologies and assessing their potential use to accelerate the development of commercial reusable launch vehicles that have improved reliability, availability, launch turn-time, robustness and significantly lower costs than current launch systems, NASA stated. The study results will provide roadmaps with recommended government technology tasks and milestones for different vehicle categories.

Submission + - Why China is Beating the U.S. On Cleantech (technologyreview.com)

TechReviewAl writes: Tech Review has an article warning that China has already overtaken the U.S. in developing clean energy technologies. The piece notes growing evidence that China is moving away from the U.S. including (pdf) a report from the British bank HSBC released earlier this year, which noted that China's economic stimulus package invested $221 billion in technology for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, about twice as much as the U.S. economic stimulus package. Another report (pdf), from The Climate Group, states that China plans to produce half a million electric vehicles in 2011, and that it produces 30 percent of the world's solar panels and is the world's fourth-largest generator of wind power.

I don't mind ads on a page, I just wish they behaved more like prints ads and stayed still. As soon as anything on a webpage moves, unless I want it to be there (i.e. the moving item is the purpose of the page and what I am looking at), I get ride of it.

The way I view items on a page that moves, is the equivalent of someone beside me jumping up and down yelling 'Look at me!!!'. I don't know many people who would stand for this. Webpages that behave like this I either modify with FF add-ons, or don't visit.

Chicago Law Firm Sues Over Hyperlink To Trademarked Name 162

TheSpoom writes "Large Chicago law firm Jones Day are suing internet startup BlockShopper over the issue of whether linking to a business with their trademarked name should be legal. It would seem they are using trademark dilution as a tool to get BlockShopper to cease linking to their website. The EFF has filed an amicus curiae, as might be expected. If Jones Day wins this suit, anyone linking using a trademarked name may be in legal hot water."
