I've found the reboot much more emotionally engaging and entertaining than the original ever was. The production quality and so on is only part of that -- the actual content is just better. Integrating so much of the original concepts as nods to the original while going off on a new more exciting tangent was very welcome in my home.

First Contact wasn't good, it just sucked so much less than the other fare that fans thought it was good. Taken on its own, its still pretty bad.

I find it funny how many people tell me there's nothing worth watching on TV these days but it turns out they don't watch actual series at all. There's quite a bit of good writing even on network television, especially compared to movies.

... then go read a study on how invalid 'feeling better' is, ie placebo effect and other self healing issues. Just because doing something made you feel better doesn't mean it had any biochemical effect on you at all.

Same here. Whenever a Windows user asks me why a video doesn't play, I ask if they've tried VLC yet. That always fixes the problem unless the file was corrupt (and even then, sometimes).

The software licensed to decrypt DVDs on Windows *isn't* VLC and that permission doesn't extend to all other user applications. Its still illegal.

What are the odds that a group of people all agree something needs to be done about something they believe?

Climate scientists can't predict the future any better than nuclear scientists could or the millions of other people who've tried in other disciplines but aren't noteworthy. There's nothing comparable about the two groups at all that doesn't also include every other scientist alive with an opinion.

They get better toward the end of the series, except the last.

I think I enjoyed 4, 5 and 6 the best. 7 was obviously "omg I need to end this".

I suspect the difference was that the editor began to care after the success of the first few.

You are correct (in the if statement) ... not bad for writing from the top of one's head in slashdot comments iidssm ... but one still gets the point. I also left out getters entirely and assumed someone would point that out.

Use your own brains -- the NSA doesn't know who its interested in in advance, so they collect as much information as possible to use in later analysis once they find out who might be connected to a person of interest.

There's 1000 programmers on this site who can do twice as much in half the time but proving it proves nothing to you because you'd just come up with another random situation or claim that one was too simple.
