75% of my job as a programmer is to take requirements from customers and managers and turn them into something that actually makes sense.

Every time we have a big breakthrough in technology and someone tries to come out with a product that allows you to automate tasks without code, it makes the programmer's life easier, but it still doesn't get rid of the need for programmers. Look at the average spreadsheet made by someone in management. Full of errors and inefficiencies. They can't even communicate with other humans what they want. good luck getting an AI to understand them.

Normally I associate "fired" with the employee doing something wrong leading to their dismissal. Whereas "laid off" just means the company can no longer afford to keep them around. Sometimes "laid off" is used when the employees are replaced by offshore workers or automation, but it's still generally used in a situation where it isn't the employee's fault.

50 Mb/s isn't really needed for video. Even Netflix says you only need about 15 mbps for 4k video, and for 1080p you only need 5 mbps. The only real use I can think of for higher speed downloads for the average person would be things like video game downloads and updates, which seem to have reached ridiculous sizes in recent years.

Most of the stuff written Java isn't cool or exciting. There's a lot of web services and applications that are extremely important to the businesses that require them for day to day operations but really don't make a good story.

Also, I'm not sure what you're going on about with "toys and crap". The first 5 is all about space exploration. There's definitely some stuff on the list that's kind of boring, but like I said, that's mostly due to the fact that most of the stuff Java is used for just really isn't interesting. That doesn't make it unimportant.

To back that up, "Construction trades" is listed among the list of least regretted college majors. Just about all the least regretted ones seem to be related to actually building something, like comp sci or engineering, or at least focus on something that translates well into a specific job that we value, such as criminology, health, nursing, and even human resources management.

I do wonder how this list would compare across other countries though, especially in places where the cost of attending college isn't high or is even free. Or also in place where certain professions are more valued. Education rates pretty badly in terms of regret, but many other countries actually value teachers. In Ontario, Canada where I live, a lot of them still don't enjoy many aspects of the job, but the job is very stable, and you can make over $100K a year after getting some seniority behind you. Combine that with the amount of vacation you get, and I know quite a few people who really do enjoy their jobs as teachers and the education field.

Just make sure you aren't an Education Assistance or Early Childhood Educator. They make way less and really aren't appreciated enough..

Invariably the slide, flip, or keys would stop working and I'd have to buy a new phone. None of my solid brick phones have ever had issues. They work flawlessly until the battery gives up or the software gets too out of date, whichever comes first.

This is just lazyness by the developers though. It's not like they are shipping a bunch of new assets. They could definitely do the update without requiring you to download 150 GB because they made a few simple bug fixes. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should really put some pressure on the publishers to make sure they don't do this kind of stuff because it makes consoles look just as bad as PCs. People buy consoles so they don't have to deal with all this kind of crap. They want a VHS player for games where they can easily play a game without a ton of trouble.

I kind of agree on this. If the restaurant wants to provide digital menus, then they should really invest and have tablets for all the customers, or maybe make the entire table a giant tablet so patrons can more easily browse the menu and see things on a reasonably sized display. But I hate doing crap on my phone, because even with a 6.5 inch display, I still find it too small to do anything that requires more than 2 minutes of my attention.

Sure, the solution won't work for everyone, Some people need very specialized glasses because they have rare conditions. But the vast majority of people can get by just fine with a more basic solution.

For the personallized solution I could see spending some money for the time spent with the audiologist to identify what the specific problems are and configure the earbuds based on the patient's needs, but $10K is a little expensive for something that will probably amount to a few hours worth of service.

You could probably automate a lot of it with software by playing sounds and asking the user if they can hear the sound and adjusting things as needed. There is no reason for the devices to cost so much other than the fact that they are locked behind medical device approvals, which are expensive, and the fact that you can't buy them off the shelf.
