Hmm .. let's see. HTC, Samsung, LG and Moto make Android phones. HTC, Samsung, and LG also make WinMo (sorry ... WP7) phones as well.

I can't imagine Moto's differentiating factor between all the other handset manufacturers are the only bits that MS has issue with. (Anyways, isn't it all just skinning on top of Google's Android?!)

Soooo, this must be a "screw you" for no longer making WinMo phones?

I have a 40GB PS-Fat. The blu-ray laser has died on me already. I've replaced it since, but that was a $60 item and time. Near the end of the cycle of these consoles, I can see a perfectly good use for this jailbreak. If my laser dies again (which apparently it's certain to do!) then if I have all my games backed up to the drive, I can still play them! (True I won't be able to buy any more, but that's ok, my gaming has slowed down in my old age any how)

I'm seriously looking into this HD upgrade then jailbreak then backing up the games to a HD deal. It would give me great peace of mind and work around a defect that sony won't own up to. Plus things would load faster! That's just win-win-win as far as I can see.

And latency? Really? It's simply about protecting profits. Go watch Flash running on a Nexus One and tell me Apple is saving the world from those milliseconds of latency.

Ummm, I have (and obviously you haven't), and it's quite horrible. Perhaps *you're* ok with a program that runs that slow on any device, but if THAT is what they want to release, then please, keep it off whatever device I'm using (in this case, the iPhone). I have nothing against Android (I have a milestone as well), in fact, I love it! However, to say flash runs smoothly on the Nexus One means you're either a) delusional b) a fanboi/hater or c) both.

I guess being subjective is not cool these days. :\

China Says Google Pledged To Obey Censorship Demands 177

bonhomme_de_neige writes "China renewed Google's internet license after it pledged to obey censorship laws and stop automatically switching mainland users to its unfiltered Hong Kong site, an official said. Google promised to 'obey Chinese law' and avoid linking to material deemed a threat to national security or social stability, said Zhang Feng, director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Telecoms Development Department, at a news conference." Update: 07/21 21:56 GMT by S : Changed headline to reflect that this is mainly just China trying to paint a better picture of the outcome. In a comment on the linked article, a Google representative said, "This piece suggests that Google has 'bowed' to censorship. That is not correct. We have been very clear about our committment [sic] to not censor our products for users in China. The products we have kept on Google.cn (Music, Translate, Product Search) do not require any censorship by Google. Other products, like web search, we are offering from Google.com.hk, and without censorship." If you go to google.cn, you can see the prominent link to the Hong Kong version of the site.

How many of you people complaining actually HAVE an iPhone 4 and are actually experiencing the problem?! I for one cannot chime in on this debate yet because I'm up in Canada and we're not getting the iPhone 4 until July 30. (And you bet I'll be getting one).

I don't understand all this over-hyped apple-bashing. I know there are a lot of haters, but seriously, what more can you ask for from a company. Here's a direct quote from Steve from the Q&A session:

"For those customers we'll get them a case, and if that doesn't work, we'll get them a full refund. And we'll continue to work on antennas that don't have this problem."

Ummm .. they have a solution for you, free of charge. If you that doesn't solve your problem, or if you don't like their solution, they're offering a full refund! I'm not sure how much more they can do. They're not forcing you to buy any of their products.

Did you read that last sentence?! That's right, you actually have a choice!! Yay!

I guess people just like the attention on hating on others?! I don't know. You kids these days, can't be happy, can you?

Although place is important, time is probably MORE important. And this is where people will differ even more. I know people that will get up at 5am and get most of their "good" work done by 9am. That's not for me. :)

My personal best time is later at night. a) most people are sleeping, so not too many IM distractions. b) it's quiet, the neighbourhood is quiet, wife is most likely asleep, it's quiet. I can think.

In terms of place, most of the time, these night sessions are done in my home office.

Really? What sort of bad? I use it on all four Macs of various ages and abilities at home. The only problem I've noted was that stupid Flash 9 would lock the system after a couple of hours. Flash 10 works fine (well, as well as Flash ever works...)

Like after a day or so of usage, it just decides to not render pages properly (not just little minor things, but complete failure to fetch/load CSS files etc). I have to quit and reload it, and even then, I have to sometimes force quit it because it won't respond to the apple-q. I know it's not just me, because a friend of mine sees the exact same behaviour. He's moved to Safari. I prefer to have the same browser on all my platforms (mac/linux) with the same 2 add-ons (flashblock, web developer) for consistency when developing.

On my linux laptop, (or even linux in vmware on my mac) I can leave it running for days and days and it never seems to behave badly at all.

I would argue that they shouldn't release it with any browsers default installed and instead give them a package manager (similar to many Linux distributions) that allows them to step through a wizard process to download browsers from trusted sources based on an ever changing list (or conf file if they really want to change that).

Right. Cause this is oh-so-user-friendly. If you were to ask 1000 "regular computer users", I'd bet over 50% wouldn't even know what a browser is. They think their computer *IS* the internet!

The only real solution is to let the VAR (ie. dell, hp, compaq, gateway, etc. etc.) bundle whatever they want. (which is what they've wanted to do for a while, but couldn't, else they'd get hit for higher prices for their OEM deals on the 'doze licenses)
