Comment Don't they mean "return to" joystick control? (Score 1) 609

The oldest family picture I have of someone in their non-horse-drawn vehicle is of my maternal great(-great?) grandfather driving his delivery truck - using a joystick. The truck looked like a horse-drawn wagon with a motor in front, and the joystick/lever for the front-axle. Next thing you know, "green transport" will go from hybrid and electric back to mammal-drawn.

You're using their bandwidth if you do this. Ergo, you are still using company resources. I have been in a similar situation. Nutshell solution for me? Just keep as you are, don't accept the $$. If they want you to back up your work, have them shell out for an external drive and backup the corporate work there, and only the corporate work.

So do I get pizza at The Shack and headphones at The Hut? Or is it diodes at Jabba the Hut, and chicken wings at SleezeShack?

PS My local Radio Shack (space intended) does still sell bread boards and many of the fixin's - plus an encyclopaedia sized catalog for special orders.

Comment I had, for a time, forgotten about the library (Score 3, Insightful) 369

I am an avid reader who buys lots of books (used and new) for my personal escapism. I like paperback books (not hardbacked). I'd forgotten about the usefulness of the library - until my daughter started getting obsessed with books (GOOD THING). To save sanity and avoid memorizing ALL the Dr Seuss books, we started going to the library. It's not the same library from when I was a kid - but at the same time, it is. It's wonderful! If you haven't been in 10 years; try it again!

Comment Do I get some of that fine money? (Score 5, Informative) 194

<rant>About two years ago, I noticed this after I actually went to their website AND called to cancel prior to renewal. It still renewed, and the "customer service" rep had the balls to tell me that they couldn't refund my money when I called about it. I took that one as far up the food chain as I could - including writing an email to the president or whatever, and got the "immediate" response that they wouldn't auto-renew NEXT time. It took approximately 3 months to get my money back. ONLY because I had documented my cancellation with workers numbers and crap. I figure they owe me about $600 in time. </rant>
