Comment Re:The difference: insecure people dislike Elon Mu (Score 1) 288

Why don't you just say that you don't like Elon Musk because of his haircut? It's still not true, but it's a lot simpler to explain than some weird principled stand about "messianic cults of personality"--when in fact you're just annoyed that somebody is getting a lot of acclaim for "technical" achievements and that somebody is not you.

The 'simpletons' are the wannabee nerds on this forum who derive their entire self-worth from being able to use computers that are hard-to-use. You hate Apple because they make computers that are easy to use. Appliance computing makes you increasingly irrelevant. My advice, find something else from which to derive your self-esteem so that you don't care so much what phone somebody else owns.

How is this level of delusion is any different than QAnon fantasies about Hillary Clinton running a child trafficking ring out of a pizza restaurant? You are inventing a strawman to justify how much you already hate a group of people, and then using that strawman as evidence for why you hate them.

That doesn't make them idiots--it just means that they see microwaves as an appliance. For you and I computers are a career and a hobby--but different people have different careers and hobbies. It actually represents progress that most people don't have to think about how a computer works--in the same way that most people don't have to think about how a microwave works or why bridges don't fall down.

Comment The difference: insecure people dislike Elon Musk (Score 3, Insightful) 288

Elon Musk is involved with several different technology revolutions. People who have trouble adapting dislike him because they blame him for changing the world faster than they can cope. Then there are all the insecure people in tech fields who are just straight-up jealous that Elon Musk gets so much attention. They tell themselves that what they really don't like is "all the hype"--but the truth is that they feel insecure and self-conscious about their own level of success when they compare themselves to Musk. The only way to cope is to try to invalidate Musk's success by saying that "it's just hype", "he's just a snake oil salesman", "he's taking credit for other peoples' work", etc, etc.

So there are large populations that just want Elon Musk to be a failure--and that dynamic leads to the clickbait mills generating content to feed that crowd. It's not that unusual. Pretty much the same people disliked Steve Jobs for the similar reasons--and pretty much every truly successful person has to deal with haters. It's a bit worse in the tech field in part because there are a lot of truly insecure people who follow tech closely.

It's not really that complicated. You want something of value, in this case you want Apple to use its portal to publicize your app, and you don't want to pay for it, or at the very least you want to pay less for it.

There's nothing stopping anyone from launching an App Store for web-based apps. But that's not what you want, you want the App Store that's already on a billion devices connected directly to peoples' credit cards--and you don't want to pay for it.

Are you saying that there is no way to reach Apple customers other than being on the AppStore? Just off the top of my head you could pay for web advertising through Google (or whoever), you could buy TV commercials, you could buy a billboard or two.

I think what you mean is that the AppStore is the cheapest way to reach iOS customers. And you wish it was cheaper.
