Comment Apparently they didn't think about the disabled (Score 3, Interesting) 99

Think of the poor people with autism, adhd, epilepsy, etc. who have to shop there. I'm sure they'll be very grateful for all the added stimuli. What's next? All those screens making sound? I wonder how often they'll have to deal with panic attacks, epileptic seizures, and the like.

The Palestinians say the exact same thing. Only difference is, they are willing to murder innocents in order to get what they want. They have been doing so, or scheming to do so, ever since Israel was created.

No wonder Israel is sick and tired and willing to FINALLY risk civilian casualties. Of course the civilian dead will only be used by Israel's enemies to start screaming "see, didn't I tell you Israel is evil?" all the while ignoring DECADES of misbehavior of their own.

I understand, there's two sides to a story. I know Israel has been illegally colonizing parts, taking the water and the fertile lands, of areas they occupy. Yes, both sides are guilty of human-rights violations. However, Israel has to constantly deal with a terrorist threat. The day they say "ok guys, we're now going to have peace and share our ground with everybody around us" is the day a massacre will happen. Israel cannot afford to be the nice guy. They need to be tough as nails if they want to survive.

Besides, they Jews were there waaaaaay before the Muslims. They've got a claim to that land which precedes that of the Muslims. A fact which is cheerfully ignored because it's the inconvenient truth.

Any addict will take the option of euthanasia over treatment. They view the world as a place which doesn't want them and it's completely evil, so why live? That's the whole reason they're addicted. They're running away from pain. Having the option of an easy death open to them, will result in thousands upon thousands of addicts applying for this, as opposed to looking for recovery. To them, death is the easy way out.

I never expected such idiocy from the Canadian government. Here's for hoping the WHO will start yelling at that government to not implement this.

There are some things you can only do in assembly.

I'm only familiar with x86, so can only relate to that.

One such thing is switching to protected mode.
Interrupts are also impossible to manage using higher level programming languages.
Communicating with hardware is also impossible with higher level languages.

On the other hand, there are some fun bugs which can cause headaches.

To be honest, I found the x86 instruction set quite easy to learn.

However, assembly is quite a while ago for me and I don't use it anymore.

Comment regulation (Score 1) 63

This is the price of having a consumer society which is dependent on capitalism. Everybody produces cheep and "good enough" stuff, which breaks after a short while, and there's an actual demand for cheep and "good enough" stuff. Those producing cheep and "good enough" stuff outproduce and outprice those who produce quality but expensive. The demand goes to cheep and "good enough", and so the quality but expensive becomes more expensive... and so the vicious circle continues.

Perhaps those dreaming up laws and regulations can spend some time forcing products to be durable, or at least easily fixable with replacement parts being required to adhere to some standard. If they do this properly, you can enjoy seeing the "cheep and good enough" industry squirm in panic, as their whole sales model all of a sudden evaporates.

If the regulators and lawmakers also decide to force and enforce requirements about recycling of old components, you can watch "cheep and good enough" companies collapse by the bucketloads, because all of a sudden they have to provide support for their cheep crap, which they cannot afford.

I'm worried what they'll do to libarchive.

Riiiiight. No, you have not. Otherwise you would have known you pay continuously by providing Microsoft with data. Assume every click you on your Windows system, goes directly to Microsoft. Yes, even when you "disabled" all that spying.

Oh? You've got an OEM version which came for free with your computer? Why do you think the manufacturer puts all this crapware on the computer?

Yeah, you paid for your OS several times over already.

Microsoft should get a massive fine over monopoly abuse for just these two systems.
