Comment Crap shows (Score 1) 94

This is nothing more than speculation, but I would hazard a guess that the crap shows always seem to be the ones they are promoting because they are cheap to license.

Same reason Spotify is pushing podcasts so hard.

If you're watching or listening to something that costs them very little to license, then you are not watching or listening to something that costs them a lot. Hence the crappy (cheap) shows get pushed harder.

It also gives Netflix leverage against the expensive shows. "Look at the stats. Your expensive and amazing show isn't getting viewed very much so we aren't going to pay you the full amount for it."

This is all speculation, but it certainly makes sense.

I think the difference here is that GM and Tesla have different goals. Tesla is aiming for the driver not needed to be there at all. On any road, under any conditions. They're not there yet, but that's the goal.

GM are aiming for a driver assist feature and are absolutely relying on the fact that there is a driver ready to take over if they system gets confused.

Change the goal of the test, and the outcome changes... whowodathunkit!

Every single marksman will tell you that if you want to actually hit what you're aiming at, one squeeze, one round.

What exactly is the point of automatic rifles again?

Comment Revenue Targets (Score 1) 150

This argument has nothing to do with piracy. It's entirely about revenue numbers to shareholders. The CEO's need to be able to tell shareholders that they "would have made more money if *something completely outside their control* did or didn't happen."

The absolute last thing that content companies want is to actually get paid for every single view, without any chance of the numbers being wrong because... ...that shows the shareholders exactly how bad their crap is, and removes any "potential revenue" from the table. They need something to give them wiggle room, password sharing gives them that boogie man.

They are an unbelievably bad place to work. This labor shortage is just a convenient PR excuse.

If they are so amazing, why do I buy something on Amazon, only to have my browser filled with ads for the product THAT I JUST BOUGHT?

If I was paying for ads I would be screaming at the vendors until they stopped showing my paid-for ads to people who have just bought my product and have no intention of buying it again in the immediate term.

That is theft. Plain and simple.

Apply punitive damages to both Google and the claimant for false notices.

Make no mistake, all those little "oops, the algorithm got it wrong" add up to a considerable amount of money for the record companies.

With Google trying to get premium content into YouTube, they are massively incentivised to game it exclusively towards the big premium content producers.
